Swiss francs \u2013 equivalent to $23.18 million in Australian currency.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"blocks_drive-block__wrapper__nDI7m\"><span class=\"paragraph_drive-paragraph-block__03kVn\"><\/p>\n<p>Listed by <em><a href=\"https:\/\/rmsothebys.com\/en\/auctions\/sg22\/ex-schumacher-2003-ferrari-f2003-ga\/lots\/r0001-2003-ferrari-f2003-ga\/\">RM Sotheby\u2019s<\/a><\/em>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drive.com.au\/showrooms\/ferrari\/\">Ferrari<\/a> F2003-GA went to auction in Switzerland this week, selling for a hammer price of 14.63 million Swiss francs ($AU23.18 million) \u2013 more than double the previous record for a car driven by Michael Schumacher.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"blocks_drive-block__wrapper__nDI7m\"><span class=\"paragraph_drive-paragraph-block__03kVn\"><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rmsothebys.com\/data\/media\/press-releases\/michael-schumacher-monaco-grand-prix-winning-ferrari-f2001-sells-for-record-7-504-000-at-sotheby-s-contemporary-art-evening-sale\/\">In 2017<\/a>, Michael Schumacher\u2019s Formula One title-winning Ferrari F2001 sold for $US7.504 million ($AU11.69 million today).<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<hr class=\"blocks_drive-block__ad__hr__Ifhs_\" style=\"height:0\"\/>\n<hr class=\"blocks_drive-block__ad__hr__Ifhs_\" style=\"height:0\"\/>\n<div class=\"blocks_drive-block__wrapper__nDI7m\"><span class=\"paragraph_drive-paragraph-block__03kVn\"><\/p>\n<p>While the Ferrari F2003-GA moved comfortably into second spot on the list for most expensive Formula One cars sold at auction, it failed to beat the record of \u00a317.5 million ($AU31.11 million) \u2013 set by Juan Manuel Fangio\u2019s 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 \u2018Silver Arrow\u2019 in 2013.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"blocks_drive-block__wrapper__nDI7m\"><span class=\"paragraph_drive-paragraph-block__03kVn\"><\/p>\n<p>This particular Ferrari F2003-GA \u2013 known as chassis 229 \u2013 is one of six built for the 2003 Formula One season, powered by a 3.0-litre V10 engine which produced approximately 685kW at 18,600rpm in qualifying trim and 630kW when racing.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"blocks_drive-block__wrapper__nDI7m\"><span class=\"paragraph_drive-paragraph-block__03kVn\"><\/p>\n<p>The F2003-GA made its debut at the Spanish Grand Prix, with Michael Schumacher converting pole position to victory. The German followed it up with another dominating performance at the next round in Austria \u2013 taking pole position, the fastest lap and race win.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<hr class=\"blocks_drive-block__ad__hr__Ifhs_\" style=\"height:0\"\/>\n<hr class=\"blocks_drive-block__ad__hr__Ifhs_\" style=\"height:0\"\/>\n<div class=\"blocks_drive-block__wrapper__nDI7m\"><span class=\"paragraph_drive-paragraph-block__03kVn\"><\/p>\n<p>Michael Schumacher used the F2003-GA in seven of the remaining 10 rounds, notching up three more wins in Canada, Italy and the points.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"blocks_drive-block__wrapper__nDI7m\"><span class=\"paragraph_drive-paragraph-block__03kVn\"><\/p>\n<p>The 2003 championship was Michael Schumacher\u2019s sixth, eclipsing Juan Manuel Fangio\u2019s record of five titles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<hr class=\"blocks_drive-block__ad__hr__Ifhs_\" style=\"height:1.63rem\"\/>\n<hr class=\"paragraph_drive-paragraph-block__03kVn\"><\/p>\n<p>While Ferrari\u2019s Formula One cars of the period were typically designated \u2018F\u2019 followed by the year of competition, the \u2018GA\u2019 suffix was added to honour Gianni Agnelli \u2013 the boss of Fiat who passed away in January 2003.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<hr class=\"blocks_drive-block__ad__hr__Ifhs_\"
