The fault could cause the charging port door to detach while driving and hit other cars or road users, according to the recall notice.

Hyundai Motor Company Australia has recalled 1191 examples of the 2022-2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric car, citing a potential fault that could cause the charging port door to detach.

The affected vehicles are stamped 2022 to 2024 models – with 1191 examples covering almost, if not all Ioniq 6s ever sold in Australia – but may have been sold at a later date.

The recall notice lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “The affected vehicles charging port door panel may misaligned due to poor adhesive application that cause the retaining hook to unlatch, resulting in the port door panel detaching from the hinge assembly whilst driving.

“If the charging port door panel detaches from [the] vehicle whilst driving, this could increase the risk of an accident-causing injury or death to road users, bystanders, and/or damage to property.”

A full list of vehicle identification numbers for the 1191 vehicles involved in the recall can be found here.

Hyundai advises that “owners of affected vehicles will be contacted in writing by Hyundai Motor Company Australia (HMCA), asking them to schedule an appointment as soon as possible with an authorised Hyundai Dealer to repair the Charging Port Door.”

Owners can call the Hyundai Customer Care Team on 1800 186 306, or visit the brand’s website.
