The Nissan Patrol is on track to achieve a sales record this year. Will a finance offer help get it over the line?
A 3.9 per cent finance rate offer on the Nissan Patrol has been extended, as the V8-powered off-road SUV prepares to set a sales record in the twilight of its life.
The Patrol – Australia’s most affordable V8-powered SUV, and second-most affordable V8 outright, behind the Ford Mustang – has recorded 5896 sales locally so far this year, against 5582 over the same period in 2023.
It has already exceeded the SUV’s annual sales tally each year from its release in 2012, until 2022 when 5724 examples were reported as sold over the calendar year.
The Nissan Patrol achieved a high mark in 2023 of 7812 deliveries, and with its average monthly sales so far in 2024 ahead of last year – at 665 vs 651 – the SUV needs to report at least 640 sales each month for the remainder of 2024 to break its annual record.
To help encourage take-up, Nissan Australia is currently offering the Patrol with a 3.9 per cent finance rate over a 36-month term for new-car buyers. The offer applies to new and demonstrator Patrol Ti and Ti-L vehicles, but not the Patrol Warrior.
With a 298kW/560Nm 5.6-litre V8 petrol engine, the Patrol will not help Nissan’s CO2 average when emissions standards for new cars – the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard – come into play next year.
Pricing starts from $88,900 before on-road costs for the Patrol Ti, and rises to $101,600 and $105,160 for the Ti-L and Warrior grades respectively.
Patrol prices have risen over the past few years, with the Ti climbing by approximately $11,000 – and the Ti-L $8800 – since the most recent facelift in 2020.
Although the car has remained mechanically unchanged, an update earlier in 2024 saw the inclusion of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support through a new media system.
Despite recent price rises, the current Y62 Patrol is still cheaper than when it launched in 2012, with the ST-L, Ti and Ti-L models hitting the market for $82,200, $92,850 and $113,900 before on-road costs respectively.
The Patrol was hit hard by manufacturing delays and stock demands from left-hand-drive markets during the COVID-19 pandemic, which makes renewed and consistent supply for the Australian market welcome news for buyers.
The new-generation Y63 Patrol, which trades the venerable V8 for a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6, isn’t due to arrive in Australia until late 2026, which gives the V8 Y62 another two years left to run.
The combination of a large eight-seat SUV body, 3500kg braked tow rating, 7000kg GCM (Gross Combination Mass) and powerful V8 are a rarity in the market, and have made the Patrol a popular choice for long-distance touring.
A Nissan Australia spokesperson told Drive there are good stock levels of all Patrol variants around the country, but some of the six colour choices (black, champagne beige, silver, blue, grey and white) are less common than others.
As with any finance offer, Drive recommends you assess whether the rate and conditions work for your circumstances by consulting with a financial advisor.
