Spy photos near the Nurburgring vehicle-testing circuit in Germany have shown Porsche could be developing a track-focused variant of its Taycan electric car.

A high-performance variant of the Porsche Taycan has been caught on camera near the Nurburgring test track and motor racing circuit in Germany, hinting at an even faster version of its electric sedan.

Spotted while undergoing testing at the Nurburgring in Germany, the electric Porsche is equipped with a flared front bumper, previously absent from the Taycan.

The Porsche Taycan test vehicle is also fitted with a lip spoiler and fixed rear wing.

Side-profile photos show large yellow brake calipers – likely a part of the car’s high-performance carbon ceramic braking system – behind a set of wheels not currently available on the Taycan.

Inside, the Taycan’s cabin features a racing seat and roll cage, although Porsche often fits these safety enhancements when testing at the Nurburgring.

It is not yet known whether these upgrades will lead to a new flagship Porsche Taycan variant – above the existing Turbo S – or if they will be applied to an existing grade when the electric car is updated.

In August 2022, the Taycan Turbo S re-set the Nurburgring record for electric cars, completing a lap of the 20.832km circuit in 7:33.350 seconds – beating the Tesla Model S Plaid by about 2.2 seconds.

Earlier this week, Porsche announced its new 992-generation 911 GT3 RS had achieved a lap of the Nurburgring in 6:49.328 – more than 40 seconds quicker than the Taycan Turbo S.

In Australia, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S is the electric car’s most performance-focused variant, developing up to 560kW and 1050Nm from its dual electric motors – priced from $351,000 plus on-road costs.
