Star of The Matrix and John Wick films is looking to have a most excellent adventure at Indianapolis this weekend – as long as he doesn’t drop below 50mph…
Acclaimed actor Keanu Reeves – star of The Matrix, John Wick and Speed – will race a Toyota GR86 sports car at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend.
The news was posted on the Fanatec GT World Challenge America’s social media – the sports car series running this weekend’s event – announcing the 60-year-old will race a GR86 in a one-off appearance in Toyota’s GR Cup Series.
The GR Cup Series Reeves will drive in is similar to the Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia GR Cup where drivers compete in an identical fleet of GR86 sports cars, with races typically held at V8 Supercars events.
The Canadian actor has a history of motor racing, and was the winner in the Pro/Celebrity race at the 2009 Long Beach Grand Prix driving a similar car to the Toyota GR86 – a Scion tC.
The GR86 he will drive this weekend is a road car with upgraded brakes, suspension, racing transmission, engine management and safety equipment such as a roll-cage.

There’s also lightweight wheels and slick racing tyres as well as a more aggressive front bumper and rear spoiler.
Reeves is an avid motorsport fan, often seen at Formula One races and Le Mans – and was behind the Disney-made 2023 documentary series on the championship-winning underdog Brawn GP team.
Also a huge motorcycle fan – and having ridden in multiple films – the Hollywood actor co-founded Arch Motorcycle now operating from Hawthorne, California.
Reeves’ drive in the GR86 is part of the 2024 Indianapolis Eight-Hour sports car race at the famous race circuit, with a pair of GR Cup races taking place – one on Saturday 5 October and one on Sunday 6 October 2024.
