An Australian has flown to Italy to take delivery of a rare $1.8 million Maserati not destined for the road.

One of 62 Maserati MCXtrema $1.8 million track-only supercars has been delivered to an Australian customer in Italy, ahead of bringing it to local shores.

The Maserati MCXtrema, based on the MC20 road car, is targeted to enthusiasts and collectors, rather than competitive race teams, and sold out soon after its launch in August 2023.

The Formula 1-inspired twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine, named ‘Nettuno’, has been tuned to produce 540kW, a near 80kW increase over the road car’s 463kW.

Power runs through a six-speed sequential transmission with carbon fibre bodywork and aerodynamics for higher downforce, and Pirelli P Zero slick racing tyres for improved grip.

The first Australian customer chose a colour scheme combining Blu Nobile, specifically selected as it is different to the standard racing blue offered on the car, and Bianco Audace Matte, a shade used for the launch of the road-going MC20.

The track car, before the unique paint, other options and government fees are added, has a claimed price tag of more than $1.8 million.

The first MCXtrema was delivered in the US at the famous Laguna Seca racetrack. Other cars have been handed over to exclusive customers in the UK, France, and Taiwan.
