A rare example of a motorsport icon has been stolen from Nissan Australia’s headquarters.
A rare example of the R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R has been stolen from the car maker’s Melbourne headquarters.
Nissan Australia’s 1991 Skyline GT-R – housed at its head office in Mulgrave as part of its in-house collection – was taken on Wednesday, with police now on the hunt for those responsible.
The vehicle is red, and its registration is GTR 091. Recent auctions of R32 Skyline GT-Rs in Australia have seen the hammer fall at prices below $100,000, but GTR 091’s status as part of Nissan’s heritage collection may see it deemed more valuable.
The R32 Skyline GT-R – nicknamed ‘Godzilla’ – was a dominant force on the world’s racetracks in the early 1990s, earning Bathurst 1000 wins in 1991 and 1992.
This exact car is one of about 100 delivered new in Australia, and formed part of the manufacturer’s heritage collection of classic Nissan models.
A spokesperson for Nissan Australia said: “Unfortunately our original R32 GT-R has been stolen and is now subject to a police investigation.”
Victoria Police is investigating the incident.
If anyone has information regarding the theft of the car, contact Nissan on 1800 035 035 or via email on csc@nissan.com.au, or Victoria Police on 1800 333 000.
