While fender benders are common in Australia, new data has revealed which state has the most drivers prone to parking accidents.

When you’ve been driving for years, chances are you’ve had some small fender benders with stationary objects like another parked car or a trolley when you’re trying to park.

Though parking accidents are a common sight in all parts of Australia, new data has revealed the state that recorded the highest rates of claims in 2025.

According to Youi Insurance – which analysed insurance trends between November 2024 and November 2025 – South Australia topped the list of all states and territories when it came to parking-related accidents.

The insurer analysed internal data of the number of active claims across the country, with SA recording a parking-related claim of 1.76 per cent, followed by New South Wales, Western Australia, Victoria and Queensland.

The Australian Capital Territory (1.4 per cent) recorded the lowest rate of parking accidents.

On a national scale, Fridays continued to be the most accident-prone day according to Youi data, with a 15.8 per cent accident rate occurring at the end of the working week.

Surprisingly, Wednesdays weren’t too far behind (15.45 per cent), while Thursdays (15.39 per cent) and Tuesdays (14.89) were also among the riskiest days to drive.

The after-school pick-up continued to be the riskiest time to drive a vehicle. According to Youi, 3:00pm “showed the highest shares of daily accidents, standing out more than any other hour”.

“[It’s] that moment when traffic spikes, kids spill out of classrooms, and everyone seems to be on the move.”

Densely populated areas such as shopping centres were also a hot bed for parking accidents.

As reported by Drive in December 2025, Doncaster was once again crowned Australia’s top shopping centre for car park collisions last year.

According to AAMI Insurance – which analysed more than 17,000 car park claims between 1 September 2024 and 31 August 2025  – the most common accidents involved drivers colliding with another parked vehicle (40 per cent), as well as hitting stationary objects such as trolleys and bollards (24 per cent).
