The regional fire brigade said the vehicle was purchased with community donations, while thieves stole other equipment from the non-profit organisation.
A vehicle used by a volunteer-run fire brigade has been stolen and torched in regional Victoria.
According to the Traralgon South Fire Brigade, its Gippsland station was broken into by thieves on 31 July 2024 where offenders reportedly stole a “slip on” vehicle – which volunteers use for emergency responses as well as “admin and training tasks”.
The car, belonging to the volunteer organisation, was purchased “using the generous donations from the community”.
In a Herald Sun report, police confirmed the vehicle was later found torched and abandoned.
“A CFA [Country Fire Authority] vehicle was located burnt out nearby at 6:45am,” a police spokesperson told the newspaper.
Traralgon South Fire Brigade said the thieves also stole multiple equipment from the station including a whipper snipper, chainsaw and a leaf blower.
Investigations into the incident are still ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers Victoria at 1800 333 000 or Traralgon Police Station at (03) 5172 2700.
